There’s a lot to be psyched about at the beginning of a new school year. Reuniting with friends, a fresh start with new classes, parties and – of course – college football season! We already supplied you with a list of some of the coolest tailgating items out there – all which are available through BIGWORDS – to get you ready to root for your favorite team.  But now the season has begun, and maybe you’re still not quite sure where your loyalties should lie?

If you go to a school that has a reputable football program, it’s pretty easy to figure out who you’re rooting for. But what about those of you who don’t get to spend your Saturdays cheering on your classmates? TicketCity recently compiled a map of the most popular college football teams in each state, so you can make an educated decision about which bandwagon to jump on, based on the preferences of other residents in your state.

We’ve gotta say – there are some surprises in this map. For instance, Texas A&M beats out the University of Texas at Austin for honors in the Lone Star State. Who knew that Dartmouth had a football team, nevermind a popular one? And has anyone even heard of Bryant University in Rhode Island? (No offense to the lovely students at Bryant.)

And, really, Vermont and Alaska? We get that it might be too cold for outdoor sports in those states, but you guys can’t root for anyone?

For all of the surprises, several of the “usual suspects” take the cake in their respective states. Did you really expect any school other than Notre Dame to have the most popular football program in Indiana? And we’d be beyond shocked if the schools in the SEC didn’t claim top honors in their home states.

If you’re still not sure what color face paint to don, stay up-to-date on the weekly polls and rankings to help you make an educated decision on who needs your support the most. And when in doubt, just do what we do and throw your weight behind an underdog. On that note, go Bryant Bulldogs!
